And.....then we stop.

This was supposed to be W2 D1, but things fell off the rails when I went into the Urgent Care with chest pain, dizziness and a nice pain in my shoulder blades. Fortunately, everything has come back normal, but there will be no more running until I undergo a stress test. They should just come along with me, running, and bring their instruments with them! I'll bet the stress test is going to be easier than W1D2.... More to come.

What it's like to run on the Rail Trail

Ah, now this is more like it! I blew off yesterday (but I'm told that that will be my official weekend rest day now). It was 3 degrees and windy as heck! Who could run in that?? (Anyone, I guess).
So today, I chose to run sans Beautiful Daughter and Dog and it was glorious. I'm sure she'll be happy to know that I will not need a drill sergeant anymore.
I tried a few new things today, running on my own, running (well, I call it running, but since it's W1D3, it's really jogging and walking) on the Rail Trail, which is dirt, not pavement, and running to music. There is nothing like running to music, suddenly it's not a chore anymore, it's more like dancing over a distance. Such fun! It took half the time I ran to figure out how to use the Mp3 player-you can't see a thing on the screen when the sun's shining on it. Once I got it going, it was on full volume, so now I'm panting, and deaf. But so worth it! Moving on to W2....

Running, or what passes for it, In the Rain

Holy Hannah! W1D2 is very hard. I think my muscles have caught on to what I'm doing and they're starting to rebel! It's nicer to run in the rain-if you start getting too warm, the raindrops cool you off. The disadvantage to running at 8 30 instead of 10 is that the neighbours might be working in their garage, and can hear you gasping....
I stretched before running this time-I hope it helps with tomorrow, when I will undoubtedly be in terrible pain.

I Get Off the Couch

W1D1-after months and months of looking at the Couch to 5K website, I have actually gotten off the couch, prompted by a shocking visit to the women's fitting room, which, I have decided, should not come equipped with mirrors....
Day One calls for a brisk 5 minute walk, followed by alternating jogs and walks of 60 and 90 seconds apiece. Repeated for 20 minutes. I made it to minute 12 when suddenly, there was my front door. My front door leads to water. And a chair. Not having brought either of these things with me, I ran in. After sitting and drinking for a full minute, by the cellphone stopwatch, my daughter kindly asked if I planned to finish the rest of the run. "Yeah, why not?", and out the front door I went. The 8 minutes were far easier than the first 12. Lesson one-bring water. Beautiful Daughter can carry it, as she's following me on her scooter with the dog, anyway.... Lesson Two-10 PM is not a bad time to run, unless you'd like to be able to breathe not quite so deeply as you fall asleep.
